Chamber Common Sense Priorities for March 2018 Municipal Election The Chamber believes that the successful mayoral candidate should be an experienced and professional manager with proven ability to team-build and transform city hall culture and structure to one of efficiency, accountability and customer oriented excellence. MUNICIPAL OPERATIONS The Chamber supports a complete and transparent review of all City financial processes to assure tax payers that generally accepted accounting procedures are being followed, accounting staff are adequately trained or replaced, up to date software and technology is being used, and vulnerability to fraud is removed The Chamber supports simplified common sense licensing and regulation with particular focus on land use, permitting, business licensing, event licenses and rational alcohol regulations that are comparable to other communities. The Chamber supports merging of some city and county government functions (payroll, HR, motor pool, water supply) in order to function more efficiently and benefit the public. The Chamber supports customer service training for ALL front-line local government staff The Chamber does not support the concept of a “public bank” or efforts to create a municipal utility. INFRASTRUCTURE The Chamber supports increasing the supply of income appropriate workforce/multi-family housing in all four districts including increased densities, live/work space, ADU’s, use of existing infrastructure, incentives for police officers, teachers and nurses and housing as part of the master plan for SFUAD. The Chamber supports expanded and improved service at Santa Fe Regional Airport, improved parking and sustainable tenant facilities The Chamber supports a master plan process to review and recommend options for future use of SFUAD to include workforce housing and economic development The Chamber supports public/private sector partnerships that increase the speed and availability of affordable broadband and cellular service throughout the community STRONG AND HEALTHY COMMUNITY The Chamber believes that support for local Young Professionals is critically important for the future of our community. Well-designed affordable housing, transportation, entertainment, broadband, recreation and social networks should be a priority for the next administration. The Chamber supports adequate funding and marketing to attract, house and train police officers in Santa Fe and continued efforts to deal with aggressive panhandling, graffiti, and other serious crimes The Chamber supports an effective beautification and weed removal program that involves ALL city departments and public/private sector partnerships The Chamber encourages regional collaboration with the City, SFPS and other partners to identify legislative priorities that improve Santa Fe’s education system from Pre-k to Higher Ed. ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT The Chamber recognizes that hospitality is our primary industry and supports adequate dedicated funding to support marketing to both group and leisure travelers The Chamber supports local and regional economic development programs that support entrepreneurship and attract and create well-paid jobs The Chamber sees film, TV and new media as presenting tremendous opportunity for job creation and should be strongly supported through incentives, training programs, recruitment and other partnerships
